This work below is a subtle critique of constant surveillance of stratified youth in New York City, immigration and first generation American’ness’ and forced “sharing” of the cultures which are a byproduct of the need to survive within a city that doesn’t feel quite like home.

Pieces of Home

An ode to the familiarity scattered across New York City through smell, sound, fashion and lifestyle. Pictured here is a grandmother and 2 daughters leaving a fish market in Chinatown LES. The fatigue on the daughter’s faces and the eerily familiar smell of ‘fresh’ fish and other seafood condiments trigger a connection to the air in Abobloshie Market, Accra, Ghana. All around the world, All over the scattered experiences of immigrant kids do we stumble upon pieces of our home nestled in seconds of the hustle and bustle of our individual livelihoods.
